Pine Valley is one of the most exclusive clubs in the USA and is widely regarded as the best golf course in the world. It is a private club, and non-members can only play if invited and accompanied by a member. Two members were recently suspended for charging guests $10,000 to play a round at Pine Valley. However, this means few people will get the chance to play this golfing gem.

Despite having never hosted any major event, due to the lack of room for spectators, this course has gained mythical status. This mainly due to the amazing design of each hole. Harry Crump, who designed the course in 1912, set himself some idiosyncratic design principles: a round of golf should require a player to use every club in the bag, with no holes being laid out parallel to the next and no more than two consecutive holes should play in the same direction. He also felt that players shouldn't be able to see any hole other than the one they were playing.

The diversity and inspiration over the full eighteen holes, and the manner in which they fit into two perfect nine hole halves where everything is balanced lead to a truly exceptional layout. Pine Valley is a very traditional-styled layout, with short par fours, narrow doglegs, compact par 3's and no less than 8 semi-blind tee shots. The short par 4 17th, is only 345 yards, but is arguably the best short par 4 in the world. There are three par 5's and three par 3's that are balanced and fair, and each require a different strategy to play well.

Pine Valley has tight fairways. lined with tall pines and the bunkers feature long wispy grass around them. Similarities have been made to Wentworth and Sunningdale in the UK. The greens are small, undulating, and many sit on ledges. Despite their size, the pin positions have enough diversity that they can subtly alter the way each hole should be played.

Overall Pine Valley is awe inspiring, peaceful, and thought-provoking as a test of golf leaving no doubt that Pine Valley is the finest golf course in the world.
