Torrey Pines Golf Course is a 36-hole municipal facility in Southern California, owned and operated by the city of San Diego located in the suburb of La Jolla about 20 minutes north of Down town San Diego. Although the course is located close to the city centre, it is a golfers paradise, bounded by mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Fog, rain and wind often sweep the seaside courses making it hard to second guess the playing conditions. Both courses at Torrey Pines were opened in 1957, the layouts and designs were carried out by William Bell, Sr.

Torrey Pines Golf Course consists of two parkland golf courses, the North Course and the more famous South Course. Both courses are open to the public and built overlooking the Pacific Ocean on coastal bluffs; both courses offer ocean views, and deep canyons cutting through both of the courses. The courses are surrounded by state-protected areas, including the Torrey Pines State Reserve park and Torrey Pines State Beach. The South course is the more challenging of the two and hosts the final round of the Buick Invitational.

Recently renovated Torrey Pines South Course boasts dramatic coastline views as well as some of the most challenging golf in the country. In 2001 Torrey Pines, hired renowned golf course designer Rees Jones to reinvigorate the course. Rees added 28 bunkers and added 500 yards to the South course courses,it now stands at 7607 yards in length, from the championship tees and provides a real test of golf. The Torrey Pines, South Course will host the prestigious 2008 United States Open Championship. Torrey Pines Golf Course with the distinction of being the only municipal golf course ever selected by the USGA to host a US Open Golf Tournament. The North course is a more manageable 6,874 yards from the championship Tees.

The PGA Tour first visited Torrey Pines Golf Course in 1968. Tom Weiskopf was the first Tour winner at the site, winning the Andy Williams San Diego Open Invitational. Among PGA Tour players, Tiger Woods has the most wins at Torrey Pines with five (1999, 2003, 2005-07).

Both Torrey Pines North & South courses are home of the Buick Invitational PGA Golf Tournament played in the first week of February. The South course is the more challenging of the two and hosts the final round of the Buick Invitational. Both 18-hole courses North and South are very scenic with beautiful ocean views. Torrey Pines signature hole is located on the North course on hole 6. As expected for a championship course the playing conditions and presentation of both courses is magnificent from the Kikuya fairways to the bent grass greens. The South and North courses offer various Tee points to suit golfers of all standards.

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is immediately adjacent to the 18th green, and is the only 5 diamond resort in San Diego.
